Glossary of Terms

Item Bank

An item bank is a comprehensive collection of assessment items mapped to specific exams and categorized by topics. It serves as a centralized repository for accessibility, curated collections for study packs, and structured repositories for examination development. Item banks support various assessment formats and can be organized within a Content Management System (CMS).

Practice Tests

Practice tests simulate real exam conditions to assess preparedness, providing performance metrics and improvement recommendations. They can be marketed in packages and tailored for various access periods to meet different preparation needs.

Study Guide

A study guide is a structured reference tool that enhances learning and exam preparation, offering concise, targeted content to help learners master specific topics. These resources can include various multimedia elements and support diverse learning styles by organizing information methodically. They are often used in educational systems as learning aids, review materials, or exam preparation resources across multiple disciplines.

Study Pack

Study-Packs are user-focused collections of learning materials designed for formative learning, offering immediate feedback after each question. They utilize AI tools for personalized guidance and are compatible with adaptive learning approaches to help learners identify and fill knowledge gaps.

Summative Assessment

Summative assessment is a comprehensive evaluation method that measures student learning at the end of an instructional period, contrasting with formative assessment's ongoing feedback. It includes practice tests and proctored exams, providing authentic test-day simulations for high-stakes exams. When used alongside formative assessments, it creates a balanced approach to support learning and validate outcomes, essential for preparation for certification and standardized tests.

Formative Assessment

Formative assessment is a dynamic method providing personalized, instant feedback during learner interactions with educational materials, enhancing learning through tailored guidance. It contrasts with summative assessment by offering continuous, adaptive feedback and includes measures like response speed and confidence levels. This approach supports an immersive learning journey rather than replicating formal test experiences, aligning with effective test preparation and knowledge retention.

Diagnostic Assessment

Diagnostic assessments are essential educational tools that evaluate a student's knowledge in specific subjects, identify knowledge gaps, and guide effective study strategies. Recommended as concise 20-item quizzes focusing on targeted topics, they help learners become comfortable with exam formats. Engaging with free diagnostic tests before promoting paid products allows students to gauge their proficiency and make informed decisions about educational resources.

Collection

Collections are essential for organizing educational content in a CMS, including types such as Bank Collections for content repositories, Assessment Collections for evaluating learner skills, Playlist Collections for structured learning experiences, and Folder Collections for basic organization. They aim to group related content, curate assessments, structure curricula, and manage access control, built on a schema involving metadata, content structure, scoring, and delivery methods.

Assessment

An assessment is a summative study session where a student completes a practice or official test, resulting in a score, pass-in score, and detailed analysis.

Exam

An exam is a detailed record of standardized tests that includes scoring methodology, registration requirements, and content structure. It serves as a central entity for organizing study materials and practice questions, guided by a knowledge graph outlining weighted topics. Content managers define exam parameters in a CMS, ensuring accurate information capture. Users can set study goals and receive adaptive content based on their preparation timeline, enhancing study efficiency and exam readiness.

Test Form

A test form is a structured assessment tool used for official purposes, featuring clear instructions, scoring criteria, and time limits to ensure standardized administration in proctored examinations and formal evaluations.

Item Feedback

Item feedback provides clarity for students, explaining concepts and addressing misconceptions. It can be static or dynamic, with dynamic feedback personalized to individual responses and learning history. Effective feedback is crucial for learning, enhancing understanding, and correcting misunderstandings, especially in formative assessments.

Cognitive Level

Cognitive levels, based on Bloom's taxonomy, categorize learning objectives by complexity: Recall (Knowledge) focuses on remembering information, Application involves applying knowledge to specific situations, and Evaluation requires higher-order thinking to analyze and make judgments. Assessments should include items at various cognitive levels, with formative assessments favoring recall and summative assessments emphasizing application and evaluation to gauge deeper understanding.

In-App Purchase (IAP)

In-App Purchases (IAPs) allow users to buy premium content and unlock features within apps across iOS, Android, and web platforms, with cross-platform access. Each platform has different transaction processes, with iOS and Android taking a commission on purchases, while web apps typically use Stripe with lower fees. IAP options include one-time purchases, recurring subscriptions, duration options, and time extensions, providing users flexibility and control over their purchases.

Knowledge Graph

A knowledge graph in Memorang organizes curriculum and educational content into a structured, interconnected network, featuring a hierarchical structure, alignment with exam blueprints, weighted topics for intelligent content generation, and serving as an evolving repository of knowledge. It supports content generation, app development, assessment delivery, and content reusability, implemented through a graph storage system that mirrors human cognitive processes for effective knowledge acquisition and retention.

Paywall

A paywall is a digital barrier that requires users to pay for access to online content, commonly used by websites and apps to monetize premium material. Paywalls can be hard (blocking all content), metered (allowing limited free access), or freemium (offering basic content for free with premium features for a fee). They often integrate with In-App Purchases, allowing users to unlock content directly through apps.

Domain Name Service (DNS)

Domain Name Service (DNS) translates domain names into IP addresses, functioning like an internet phonebook. It is crucial for setting up custom domains, ensuring authentication and security, improving email deliverability, enabling deep linking in mobile apps, and supporting multi-tenancy for projects under a single organization.

Sales Channels

Sales channels enable integration with external sales platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce, enhancing visibility and sales opportunities. Proper configuration is necessary for product listing, inventory management, and order processing between systems.

Enemy Items

Enemy items in psychometrics are test questions that interfere with each other, compromising test validity. They can inflate scores and create unfair advantages. Detecting these items is crucial for maintaining assessment quality, and AI can be trained to identify them through customized workflows that analyze item interference.

App - CE (Continuing Education)

The platform offers organizations a white-labeled solution for delivering accredited continuing education, focusing on compliance tracking and certificate issuance. It features AI-powered personalization, course distribution, progress tracking, and gamification elements to enhance user engagement while allowing customization to meet specific organizational needs.

App - Prep (Test Preparation)

This offering enhances exam readiness by allowing credentialing bodies and training providers to create branded learning apps for practice and feedback. It provides monetization through premium content and personalized tutoring, focusing on high-stakes exams like standardized tests and certifications. Organizations can generate revenue through tiered subscriptions and in-app purchases, with options for small pilots or large-scale deployments across multiple exams.

CMS - Headless (General Purpose)

A flexible content backbone for organizations to manage and deliver learning materials, enabling adaptability across platforms. It modernizes legacy content through AI integration, offering automated evaluation, fact-checking, and content generation while maintaining consistency. Ideal for addressing content sprawl, it allows easy export and synchronization across systems, catering to both small teams and larger institutions with complex workflows.

CMS - High Stakes (Official Content)

A specialized content system designed for regulated or exam-critical material ensures high quality, accuracy, and auditability. It is particularly relevant for boards and credentialing organizations that require strict content management. The system offers various tiers, with higher levels providing enhanced AI alignment and detailed reporting for compliance as item volumes and oversight demands increase.
